Welcome to The International Music Academy.
The International Music Academy was founded in August 2005 by two Rice University graduates, Matthew and Ekaterina Loudermilk. Within two years, the program grew to over 100 piano students and six faculty members. The year 2007 marked the beginning of an exchange program with the Igumnov State Music School in Moscow. In the initial trip to Russia, several of our students toured Moscow and performed in concert at the American Embassy as well as at the Igumnov Music School.

We want to break an unfortunate stereotype that classical music is an activity of the elite, available only to a small group of professionals. Through education and performances we strive to make it accessible to all.
MISSION STATEMENT
The International Music Academy is committed to bringing comprehensive and expert music instruction to its students. We believe that the study and appreciation of music enriches people's lives by developing creativity, intelligence, and cultural appreciation. Through our skilled artistic faculty and dedication to excellence, we strive to create the musical environment necessary for students to achieve their full artistic potential, either for future college study or for their own growth and enjoyment.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
We believe that quality instruction is necessary not only for the advanced student, but equally for the beginner. Regardless of age or goals, a student should have access to a teacher of the highest caliber. Our academy provides this access, as well as a framework of support for both teachers and students.
Parents
Parental involvement is essential to a child's success in music. This is especially true for younger students. A parent and a teacher work together maximizing the potential of each child, while encouraging and nurturing his or her interest.
Teachers
We use two main criteria for hiring a faculty member: a passion for teaching and high professional qualifications. All of our teachers are accomplished artists who either possess or are in the process of finishing performance degrees in their instruments.
We view our teaching as a way to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.
Our teachers focus on helping the students understand and apply concepts which are essential to their success in music. In addition to purely musical elements such as note reading, rhythm, and form, students learn other concepts which can be applied in many areas of life. Playing the piano will teach your child how to study and focus, how to approach a complicated task by breaking it into smaller and easier pieces, how to recognize patterns and manage time.
We view our teaching as a way to make a positive impact on the lives of our students.
Performance
Performing experience is an essential part of music education. Performances motivate and encourage students by providing long-term goals and positive feedback. Our outreach programs in hospitals and retirement homes benefit both the listeners and the performers. These programs bring classical music into the community and encourage children to share their joy of music with others.
